215: Honouring the Children

Teachers recognize how important it is to ramp up the teaching of Canada's once hidden history of Indian Residential Schools. In this session we will explore how to deepen and expand our awareness of the ongoing revelations of Canada's policies.

Meredith Rusk is Eh Cho Dene from the Fort Nelson First Nations. She was a member of the Aboriginal Education Advisory for five years, and has been a BCTF Indigenous workshop facilitator over the past several years. Meredith is the Local Aboriginal Education contact for the North Okanagan-Shuswap Teachers Association and is the Indigenous Resource Helping Teacher for the school district.

Brenda Celesta is a current member of the Aboriginal Education Advisory Committee.  Brendan lives and works in Tkemlups and has been a teacher for 20 years in Kamloops/Thompson. Brenda is from the Secwépemc Nation territory where she still lives today. Her father is of the Secwépemc Nation and her mother is from the Nlaka’pamux Nation.
